Concierto de Aranjuez

We often talk about our western music education being rather Euro-centric, which it is. But even within Europe, there is often a hyper-focus on some countries over others… e.g. Spain being all-too-often a part of the latter group.

It’s a shame too, because Spain has so much to offer us in the concert hall. It’s also worth noting that French, Italian, German, and Russian composers were obsessed with Spanish music and culture. They all wrote their Symphonie Espagnole’s, operas set in Spanish cities, and so on.

So sit back, pour yourself a glass of Rioja, and enjoy a little taste of classical music from the Iberian peninsula.
